Lead Software Engineer – Full-Stack (React/Node)
Up to $160k + Bonus + Equity
New York, NY – Hybrid (3 days in office)
Must have strong commercial experience across React, Node.js, and TypeScript.
Middle has partnered exclusively with a high-growth company headquartered in New York to expand their internal software development function. The business is scaling rapidly and is now building out a core product engineering team to support new feature development and platform enhancements.
Role:
As Lead Software Engineer, you’ll act as the most senior technical contributor within the team. You’ll work closely with the Head of Engineering, Product Managers, and internal stakeholders to shape technical direction, drive projects forward, and deliver high-quality releases.
You won’t be line managing but will be mentoring junior developers and acting as the go-to person for technical guidance. You’ll take part in full lifecycle development – from planning and design through to release and post-deployment review.
The ideal Lead Software Engineer will have:

Strong commercial experience using React (ideally with Next.js), Node.js, and TypeScript

Previous experience delivering end-to-end web applications in a production environment

Good understanding of relational or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)

Familiarity with modern DevOps tooling (Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms like AWS or GCP)

Background in Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban)

Excellent communication skills with experience working cross-functionally

Ability to mentor junior developers and lead technical discussions
